The 30th annual Brits Awards ceremony takes place at London’s Earls Court tomorrow. The show actually began in 1977 but has taken place every year since 1982 and has proved to be the most controversial, drunken and violent awards ceremony ever. In no particular order, here are a few of The Brits’ “best moments.”
Jarvis Cocker’s Bum Flap 1996
An idea to re-stage this incident as some kind of bizarre 30th birthday merriment probably wouldn’t go down too well this year following the recent demise of Michael Jackson. It was during Jackson’s appearance at the 1996 Brit Awards and his performance of Earth Song that Jarvis Cocker, of British band Pulp, decided to protest against Jackson portraying himself as some kind of messianic figure who appeared to be healing a group of worshipping children.
Cocker decided to show his disdain by invading the stage during the performance, bending over and flapping his hands over his bottom in a wafting motion.
